Today’s blog is going to be
about organ donation. This blog is not just for my family or my friends or for
my parent’s friends. It is for everyone to read. Well, here are the questions
that some of you may ask which is who, where, what and why.
We will first start with who.
Now, there are two people that will go through the process which is the person
donating and the person getting the organ. The person that is donating can be
dead or alive.
Donation after a person is brain
dead.
Brain dead means that the
person is dead but, the heart is still pumping. That means the person’s brain
has stopped working but, the organ won’t fail right away. It will take time
before the organs will all fail. When a person is brain dead and 1 of his or
her organ is still functioning, and another person is in need of that organ,
the family can decide whether they will want to donate to help another person
in need. The good thing about donating organs to others is that even though you
can’t save your family member, you still can save others. Other people still
can live and at the same time, the person’s family will be delighted that you
are willing to donate something to save their family member.
For example, let’s say your family member dies
(Brain dead) when you are 36 but his or her liver is still functioning and
healthy. You have been asked whether you approve to donate your family member’s
liver but, you said no because you want your family member’s organs to stay in
his or her body. You then see a child who is 10 years old at the corridor and
she is weeping because her father’s liver has failed and her father is in need
of a new liver. If you were that person who is talking to the child, will you
feel like you have made the wrong choice? If I was that person, I would feel terrible
and say that I made an awful choice. Because your family member dies when you are
36 but, hers will die when she is 10. I would tell that I agree to donate and
sign the form. Don’t worry. If you are in Malaysia, which is where we are, you
won’t have to pay anything. You just have to confirm that you agree to donate.
The next question is where? The doctors will go
to the hospital that the donor is in, take the organs and come back to the
hospitals where the transplants take place at. Both organ donation and
transplants take place in OT aka Operation Theatre. After the transplant they
will usually bring the patient (recipient) to the ICU aka Intensive Care Unit
but, for me it is “I see you”- get it? I= I C=see U=you I see you!!!!
What can you donate?
Organs
that you can donate.
You can donate heart, liver, kidney, cornea, skin,
bones and lungs.
Why is the last word on our
checklist. Why is donating Important?
Well the important thing about organ donation is
that you can save someone’s life. Well, if you still don’t understand why
donating an organ is important, I can give an explanation for it. One person
can save 9 people’s lives – the heart can save 1 person, kidneys can save 2
people (because there are 2 kidneys in a person’s body), the liver can be
divided into 2 so that means you can save 2 people, the lungs can save 2 people
and the corneas can help 2 people. So, in total you can save 9 people.
So my blog has ended for today and to those who
haven’t read my other blogs please read them. This is actually my first blog
ever that I finished in a single day. Bye and please consider donating your
organs.
